'Taco Bell High' may come to Canada
Wrong, wrong, wrong.I despise the selling of naming rights for public facilities. The local library board did that here a few years ago when they built a new branch, amid much controversy. In a cool turn of events, a local couple bought the rights and then proceeded to name the library after the person it should have been named after in the first place! But it doesn't always work out that way.
And selling the naming rights of public schools seems particularly distasteful. (Hey ... the biggest and most successful business in my neighborhood is a porn shop. What if they bought the naming rights to my school -- The Red Letter News Elementary School. Hmmm.)

I refuse to believe this could happen but then the stadium there which was originally The Paladium has been numerous names since, all named after conglomerate companies. I just can't imagine a school though!
No to naming rights for public schools.
No to commercial sponsorship of athletic teams or sports facilities.
No to advertising in textbooks.
NO! NO! NO!!!
There was recently a news story here. They want to put ads on the sides of fire trucks.
Advertising in text books?
Good grief!
Yes, text books: they want to do that, too. It's bad enough that the magazines purchased for my classroom are full of ads for military recruiting, junk food, and designer clothing.
FIRE TRUCKS? No to that, too!
I would think that fire engines are generally going too fast to read the ads ... aren't they?
Text books? That's kind of dumb, even if you weren't offended by the idea. Schools don't adopt new textbooks very often (especially in this day and age.) Won't the ads be outdated awfully quickly?
This is truly disgusting.
